FASHION NEEDS AND CONSUMPTION-
GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE
Fashion has been an important part of society and culture. If you say that something or someone is trendy, you mean that they are very fashionable and modern. Fashion communicates in different ways that materialistic things like clothes and accessories are the most important ones in life. Fashion has the ability to change and shape lives through its personal connection to us all.
Fashion industry is one of the most polluting industry in the world. The production and distribution of crops and fibers and garments used in fashion all contribute to different forms of environmental pollution. Fast fashion makes shopping for clothes more affordable, but it comes at environmental cost.
Fast fashion is a term used to describe the readily available, inexpensively made fashion of today. The word FAST describes how quickly retailers can move designs from the catwalk to stores, keeping pace with constant demand for more and different styles. With the rise of globalization and growth of a global economy, supply chains have become international, shifting the growth of fibers, the manufacturing of textiles, and the construction of garments to areas with cheaper labor. Increased consumption drives the production of inexpensive clothing, and prices are kept down by outsourcing production to low and middle-income countries (LMICs).
The global health costs associated with the production of cheap clothing are substantial. With the fashion industry now being held accountable for the way they're impacting the planet, businesses now have no other options than to rethink the current business model and start creating clothes ethically and sustainably in order to meet the consumer demand.

Truly said, everyone is indeed indulged into the rat race of becoming trendy. Talking about the global perspective more than 50% of the population is not even aware of the term fast fashion. They are blindly following trends owing to increased consumerism and indirectly environmental pollution. Also the 80 billion clothes purchased every year end up in dumps and landfills, polluting every bit of our environment.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, The annual value of clothes discarded prematurely is over $400 billion globally. Here are the biggest ways it impacts the planet. Fast fashion makes shopping for clothes more affordable, but it comes at an environmental cost. The fashion industry produces 10% of all humanity's carbon emissions, is the second-largest consumer of the world's water supply, and pollutes the oceans with microplastics.
Deleteaccording to global perspective , though fast fashion has many ill effects but still I feel it plays a major role in generating employment .
ReplyDeleteIndeed I can understand this that we all have some kinds of wants...but those are not our needs bcoz of us these fast fashion brands raised their supply and bcoz of which it's affecting our environment....You well said that Fast fashion makes shopping for clothes more affordable, but it comes at environmental cost.
ReplyDeleteRightly said that businesses now have no other option than to create sustainable clothes. Now it's high time when people should start realizing the bad impact that fast fashion has on the environment. They should stop their rush towards fast fashion and be aware of sustainable brands and their efforts towards making a difference. Because if we the people will not change our mindsets, no one can help to bring a change in the environment.
ReplyDeleteI guess the problem starts when we start focusing on ourselves more and start ignoring the global aspects. I hope people become more aware about their own role.
