FASHION NEEDS AND CONSUMPTION-
REFLECTION OF IMMEDIATE ENVIRONMENT
The fashion industry has a disastrous impact on the environment. In fact, it is the second largest polluter in the world, just after the oil industry. And the environment damage is increasing as the industry grows.
FASHION AND WATER POLLUTION-
In most of the countries in which garments are produced, untreated toxic wastewaters from textiles factories are dumped directly into the rivers. Wastewater contains toxic substances such as lead, mercury and arsenic etc. These are extremely harmful for the aquatic life and the heath of the millions people living by those rivers banks
Another major source of water contamination is the use of fertilizers for cotton production, which heavily pollutes runoff waters and evaporation waters.
Fashion is important in society because it has the potential to bring different people together to celebrate their own individuality. I belong from a family in which some of my cousins have lot of stuff and some of them buy clothes according to their needs. If I see around myself, their are so many peoples who buy a lot of stuff with a thinking that one day they'll going to use it but this never happens because they never stop shopping.
I grew up in a culture where repeating of clothes was frowned upon and for every marriage or major festival, new clothes were compulsory. Though I saw a few of my aunties sharing clothes, most of the time they were wearing new ones, bragging about it and at the same time commenting on other's outfits with judgmental eyes.
1. Fashion at times make people spend unnecessarily that affects their financial budget.
2. The clothing industry is responsible for about 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions and consumes more energy than aviation and shipping combined, according to the united nations environment program.
3. The fashion industry is one of the major polluting industries in the world. The production and distribution of the crops, fibers, and garments used in fashion all contribute to differing form of environmental pollution, including water, air, and soil pollution.
The fashion industry can be a great asset or liability in our lives. It all depends on we see and use it. You don't have to spend loads of cash buying things to impress people. Therefore, don't get into the business of chasing butterflies. The fashion industry is changing all the time, like the weather.
HOW WE SAVE OUR PLANET FROM FASHION POLLUTION??
1. BUY LESS
2. BUY CLOTHES FROM SUSTAINABLE BRANDS
3. BUY BETTER QUALITY
4. BUY SECOND HAND, SWAP AND RENT CLOTHING
5. CHOOSE ORGANIC CLOTHES
6. DONATE YOUR OLD CLOTHES
7. THINL TWICE BEFORE THROWING OUT YOUR CLOTHES
8. SHOP AND DROP FOR CHARITY

Indeed, repeating clothes is a sin in the society we live in. Society has set up a prominent standard which everybody has to fit in and while fitting into that we forget about its impact on our environment. I hope one day these society standard has no limits and set bars.
ReplyDeleteI also hope people's change their standard of living because it is harmful for the environment. Because fast fashion affects our economy.
DeleteThe urge of presenting ourselves and showing off is taking on the society .
ReplyDeleteI agree with ur point that we shop things with a thought that one day I'm going to use this but that day never comes bcoz we actually dont even need those things....our thoughts are parallel on this one
ReplyDeleteTruly said, most of the times we buy new clothes just for the sake of society. We buy new, to avoid the wrong judgements made by the society. We even buy to match the standards of other people.
ReplyDeleteBut we need to shift our focus point from the society to the environment we live in. We should start thinking of the environment and try to change people's mindset and make them aware of the fast fashion ill effects.
If only we all learn to rise from this facade of maintaining an image in front of others, we'll truly be able to contribute our part in society.
ReplyDeleteAll of us have experienced the stigma around repeating clothes not only at weddings, but even at the smallest gatherings. what we don't realize is how much we are harming our planet in our bid to look the trendiest
