SUSTAINABLE BRANDS

                       SUSTAINABILITY ??

Sustainability means meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainability is the process of living within the limits of available physical, natural, and social resources in ways that allows the living systems in which humans are embedded to thrive in perpetuity.

                           WHY SUSTAINABILITY ??

The motivations behind sustainability are often complex, personal and diverse. It is unrealistic to create a list of reasons why so many individuals, groups and communities are working towards this goal. Yet, for most people, sustainability comes down to the kind of future we are leaving for the next generation.

Sustainability as a value is shared by many individuals and organizations who demonstrate this value in their policies, everyday activities and behaviors. Individuals have played a major role in developing our current environmental and social circumstances. The people of today along with future generations must create solutions and adapt.

THREE PILLARS OF SUSTAINABILITY-

What Would A Sustainable World Look Like ??

     WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE FASHION ??

Sustainable fashion refers to clothing that is designed, manufactured, distributed, and used in ways that are environmentally friendly. Sustainable fashion is a movement and process of fostering change to fashion products and the fashion system towards greater ecological integrity and social justice. Sustainable fashion concerns more than just addressing fashion textiles or products. It comprises addressing the whole system of fashion.

                SUSTAINABLE BRAND ??

A Sustainable brand is one that has successfully integrated environmental, economic and social issues into its business operations. However, many companies that consider themselves to be sustainable only meet one-third of this definition.

SOME OF THE BEST SUSTAINABLE FASHION BRANDS YOU CAN ACTUALLY TRUST-

1. Columbia-

Columbia also looks at the full supply chain to improve its sustainability, but what makes it stand out from others brands is the innovation in the production process. Its OUTDRY ECO JACKETS are made from recycled water bottles, use no dye to save over 24 gallons of water per jacket, and has a water-repellant finish without PFCs that are known to be harmful to the environment. The brand also says over half of its vendors are Bluesign certified, meaning they are more efficient with water, energy, and waste, and follow strict safety requirements.

2. Patagonia

Patagonia also buys and resells its own styles, so you can get credit for bringing in your old Patagonia clothing  or buy something pre-owned for a lower cost.

3. Epoque Evolution

This brand puts a lot of thought into how and where it makes its clothes. For starters, it tries to use more sustainable materials wherever possible or buy from mills with ethical practices like waste management. It even uses waste from other companies' production processes to make shirts, and it only uses fabrics that don't need to be dry cleaned. The upscale athleisure styles are perfect for traveling because they pack nicely and don't wrinkle easily.

4. People Tree

Verloop brings the term "trash to treasure" into the fashion industry: it uses fabric scraps and excess materials to make accessories that are equally fun and useful. Ethical fashion is the driving force behind ABLE, which focuses on fighting poverty by offering fair wages and creating jobs for women. This is another example of a large brand making a simple change, yet it has the ability to make a significant impact on the environment because of its volume. The earth polo (also available in men's and kid's variations) is made of recycled water bottles and uses dyes that don't require water in the application process. Even though it's just a shirt, Polo Ralph Lauren estimates that it will save the equivalent of 170 million plastic bottles from landfills by 2025. The company also publishes a sustainability report to showcase its efforts and goals for years to come.

   MY PERSPECTIVE ON SUSTAINABLE FASHION

In my opinion sustainable brand are very effective. They are taking initiative to make environment ecofriendly. Sustainable fashion is a process of adopting change to fashion products and the fashion industry towards greater ecological reliability and social justice.

Sustainable fashion is all about creating a product range with the use of natural sources economically that create Eco-friendly product range supporting hand weaving, chemical free dyeing and causes no damage to environment. In the time zone when we are struggling to breath in fresh air due to mechanization of work and process, it is important to recognize the value of healthy environment

Sustainable fashion is the only way forward, and an answer to the destructiveness of fast fashion. Sustainable fashion essentially means that the materials used to make the final clothing is maybe organic, biodegradable, eco-friendly, recycled, up-cycled, ethical and promotes fair trade.

  5. Interesting suggestion of RENT THE RUNWAY. We know that sustainable fashion is not affordable but with these ideas their reach is expanding. In fact CEO Sarina Siddhanti and president Arian Agrawal launched Riya Collective in April 2019 from their living room with zero capital. Started with the same idea RENT THE RUNWAY For Indian-Americans, finding trendy ethnic wear at reasonable prices in the US.
