Looking good can be bad for the planet. Massive amounts of energy, water and other resources are needed to make clothes. From the pesticides poured on cotton fields to the washes in which denim is dunked, making 1 kg of fabric generates 23 kg of greenhouse gases on average, reckons McKinsey, a consultancy. Because consumers keep almost every type of apparel only half as long as they did 15 years ago, these inputs go to waste faster than ever before. More than half of the fastest-fashion items made are chucked away within a year of production. But such rampant retail therapy costs the earth.

Now you understand fast fashion is very harmful for environment. In the United-States, 88% of consumers prefer shopping for fast fashion, followed by consumers in Europe (46%), India (25%) and China (21%).The most popular fast fashion retailers in the world are Uniqlo (21%), H&M (18%) and Zara (18%). fast fashion brands can push new collection to high street stores in a very short time. 

                                                         

                                                              After watching this documentary I was shocked and I can't believe the fact that are we really wasting this much!! You know that 80 billion items are manufactured

every year and only 20% are reused. The textile and fashion industry has a long and complex supply chain, starting from agriculture and petrochemical production ( for fibre production) to manufacturing, logistics and retail. Each production step has an environmental impact due to water, material, chemical and energy use. Many chemicals used in textile manufacturing are harmful for the environment, factory workers and consumers. Most environmental impacts occur in the textile-manufacturing and garment-manufacturing countries, but textile waste is found globally. Fast fashion has increased the material throughout in the system. Fashion brands are now producing almost twice the amount of clothing today compared with before the year 2000. Current fashion-consumptions practices result in large amounts of textile waste, most of which is incinerated, landfilled or exported to developing countries.

At the end I just only want to say that we can save our planet by taking some initiative in our life like

buy less, donate your old clothes, use sustainable product, buy second hand, buy better quality etc.
